TRAINING THEME: BUILDING TECHNICAL EXPERTISE IN DNA BARCODING TECHNIQUE FOR IDENTIFICATION OF AGRICULTURALPESTS AND INVASIVE ALIEN SPECIES IN NIGERIA
The 7 day training will focus on:
* Standard DNA barcoding workflow
* Specimen collection
* Establishment of DNA library and bioinformatics
* Developing validated DNA barcode sequence database for the agricultural pests and invasive species of concern to Nigeria.
Training Schedule:
Starting off with a pre-training symposium on the 3rd of September.
Date: 3rd to 9th September, 2018.
Venue: National Institute for Pharmaceutical Research and Development. Idu Industrial Area, Abuja, Nigeria
Time: 9:00AM to 5:00PM daily.
Target Audience
Pre-training Symposium: CBD National Focal Point, Ministries of Health, Environment and Science and Technology, National Plant Protection Agency, Border authorities, Agencies involved in monitoring and management of invasive species, Industries, Agriculture-based industries, Research Institutions, Academia / Educational institution, NGOs, Media, etc
Training Proper: trainees will be selected from relevant national institutions that are responsible for or dealing with issues related to monitoring and managements of invasive plant species and agricultural pests.
