Customs Intercepts Containers Laden With Tramadol In Rivers
The Nigerian Customs service (NCS) says a total of 20-40 feet containers laden with Tramadol have been seized in Rivers state. The Command also stated that over six trailers with expired rice have also been intercepted by the gallant officers of the Command in the state.
Assistant Controller, Zone C (NCS) Port Harcourt, disclosed this to newsmen in the state capital recently during the launching of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency Campaign against illicit drug Abuse and trafficking organized to mark 2018 world anti-drug day.
Umar maintained that NCS increased import duty as a measure to tackle drug abuse by importers.
Commenting on the effect of consumption of expired rice, Umar noted that expired rice causes cancer to humans and its consumption should be discouraged.
On the revenue in 2017, the customs controller also stated that in 2017, NCS collected 160 million naira import duty from alcohol and cigarettes.
Continuing, Umar appealed to sister security agencies in the state to always collaborate with NCS at curbing drug abuse and other illicit consumables in the state.
It would be recalled that the consumption of tramadol and other hard drugs has been on the increase in the country in recent times fueling both local and international condemnation.
