Doctors remove massive hairball from 12-year-old’s stomach
Doctors in Kazakhstan have removed a hairball weighing about 3.65kg from the stomach of a 12-year-old girl.
The girl was operated at the Mangystau Regional Children’s Hospital in the city of Aktau, in south-western Kazakhstan’s Mangystau region, where a hairball measuring 35cm by 13cm was removed from her body.
The Mirror reported that the girl suffered from severe stomach pain and nausea. She also remained skinny.
Head of the surgical department of the hospital, Sultanbek Tumashev, said, “The ball took up almost all of the girl’s stomach and had even forced it to expand, but despite the increased size, the hairball still left very little space for food.”
“Due to her low protein level and swollen legs, doctors needed two days to prepare the girl for surgery.”
The girl had the habit of chewing her hair, which most likely resulted in the problem.
Doctors say she is out of danger and recovering.
