Executives of JOHESU Lagos Chapter Are Saboteurs by Ogunsanwo B. O
In solidarity with the national JOHESU leadership, all state JOHESU were called to embark on industrial action to put pressure on the federal government so as to grant our demand which is upward review of conhess salary amongst others.
In the spirit of esprit de corps, JOHESU Lagos chapter joined the industrial action and was expected to comply until the federal government accede to the demands made by our national body unfortunately, opposite was the case.
JOHESU lagos chapter called for a congress on the 14th of May to brief her members about the outcome of their meetings with the state government. The meeting commenced but what we witnessed was a show of shame! The JOHESU excos began by singing the praises of Lagos state government and Governor Ambode for the entire duration of the meeting making members to think whether JOHESU was now an agency under the government.
The so called leaders were not only apathetic to the plight of their members, they displayed high level of incompetence and showed a total disregard for the national body with their actions. They claimed that Lagos state government have acceded to some of their demands but it seemed they have forgotten that the main aim of this strike was ‘Upward review of CONHESS salary’ not other ‘incentives’. Yes, Lagos state might have promised to implement CONHESS salary when it is approved, but JOHESU Lagos state branch should have showed solidarity with the national body and other state JOHESU on industrial action.
Even after members (Nurses, Pharmacist, Medical scientists etc) gave no support for the strike to be called of with tangible reasons, the ecxos of Lagos Johesu turned deaf ear to all form of pleas, demands, request etc by her members.
The congress ended in a deadlock and the excos were almost attacked by members who felt betrayed but had to be placated by other members.
JOHESU excos Lagos chapter are charlatans, irresponsible and motivated by their selfish interest. The association has been infiltrated by politician and the leaders are now wining and dining with those that destroyed the health sector.
Lagos Johesu have sold our ‘future’ just for a few kobo, they have sold our “birthright” for “a bowl of porridge” just like the Biblical Esau.
Lagos JOHESU is full of leaders that are self serving, egoistical and power drunk dictator that don’t care about what people that elected them think or want.
It is only Lagos JOHESU that an ongoing strike is called of verbally and on WhatsApp. Infact, one of the leader of JOHESU threatened members that they are on their own if they don’t resume work on the 15th of May. As of the time of writing this piece, no circular has been released to call of the strike, all we are hearing is rumor on social media as if the social media issued industrial action.
Am using this medium to call the attention of national JOHESU about the acts of sabotage/betrayal by Lagos state JOHESU leaders and to as a matter of urgency wade into this issue in order to avoid further disagreement.
Personally, I have decided never to join any industrial action called by JOHESU and will make sure I mobilize people who will sabotage their effort in the future if this issue is allowed to die a natural death.
To all health workers in Lagos state, “To your tent oh Isreal
