‘Expansion of Diagnostic Services can Tackle Medical Tourism’
The Chairman of Echo Lab Radiology and Laboratory Services, Dr Benson Cole, has said that the expansion of diagnostic services in the country will solve the problem of medical tourism.
Cole made the statement on Thursday during a briefing held in Lagos to unveil a new laboratory.
He said the rationale for this move was to bridge existing gaps in the medical diagnostic field.
Cole also said his company’s partnership with Integrated Diagnostic Holdings had helped to eradicate challenges of human error in the process of diagnosis through the procurement of the latest equipment in the field.
The IDH Business Development Consultant, Dr Khaled Aboul-Enein, remarked that the medical diagnostic market in Nigeria, which was pegged at N50bn in 2015, had been projected to hit about N300bn by 2025. He called for a better health care through medical diagnosis.
Abou-Enein noted that consolidating the market was part of the key factors that could drive the growth of the sector. He added that most public hospitals offered only basic low-cost test, which had caused a fragmented market for private sector diagnostic centres because most private hospitals tend to outsource advanced testing through diverse centres.
However, he was optimistic that the IDH’s experience models that worked in other countries of their operations like Egypt will work for Nigeria.
