FG Releases N360m For Purchase Of Contraceptives

To check population explosion, the federal government has released $1 million(N 360m) for the delivery of contraceptives for the enhancement of quality family planning among Nigerians.
This was disclosed by the minister of Heath ,Isaac Adewole after the federal executive council meeting presided over by President Muhammadu Buhari at the presidential villa.
He said procurement for the implementation of the plan led by a committee chaired by a director in the ministry had equally been secured.
According to him, the ministry had submitted nine proposals which had equally been approved by the council since 2016.
He observed that following a presidential approval of the joint venture agreement between the federal government and May $ Baker for the production of local vaccines, a board had been constituted on January 19 to oversee the venture and consequently, Nigeria will begin to produce its vaccines within the next two years.
He said the government is fine-tuning arrangements for the enrollment of 320,000 members of the National Youths Service Corps (NYSC) for National Health Insurance Scheme yearly.
Adewole also said the bill seeking the establishment of National Centre for Disease Control (NCDC) to help in tracking diseases has passed second reading in the National Assembly.
On his part the Minister of State for Power, Works and Housing, Mustapha Shehuri, said the Council has approved N10.5 billion for the repair of Hadejia-Nguru road linking Jigawa and Yobe states.
He said the 30 kilometre-road project had been awarded to a civil engineering company, Mothercat.
During his briefing ,the Minister of Water Resources, Suleiman Adamu,said council approved N14.5bn for the completion of Gari irrigation projects meant to serve Kano and Jigawa States.
According to him, the project , had been abandoned since 2000 after it was over 50 percent completed.
He added that the project is one of the 116 abandoned projects inherited by the ministry and is among the top priority projects of the government because of its capacity to supply to serve 2,000 hectares.
