IPAN to Tackle Drug with Advanced Laboratory Practice
The Institute of Public Analysts of Nigeria has stressed the need to ensure that Nigerians are given good food and drugs that are accepted internationally through advancing analytical laboratory practice in the country.
At a briefing held in Lagos on Thursday and organised by the Institute to mark institute 25th anniversary, the Acting Registrar of the institute, Mr Duro Abdusalam, said it was designed to bring together industry experts and stakeholders to provide solutions to issues that affect food security and laboratory practice in the country.
He noted that IPAN was out to educate the public on the importance of the quality of what the citizens consume, bordering on food safety, dangers of fake, substandard and adulterated products.
“The laboratory is key to quality assurance of export products and locally consumed materials. Data obtained by public analysts after laboratory evaluations are used to assure safety and quality of food, pharmaceuticals, water, chemical materials, including oil and gas and to ensure compliance with environmental and other regulations,” Abdusalam said.
The Chairman, Silver Jubilee Anniversary of the institute, Mr Ademilola Adebayo, explained that laboratory analysis would ensure products meet the appropriate safety and quality requirements in the import/export trade, thereby positively enhancing international trade.
Adebayo added that public analysts, through their activities, could prevent avoidable sickness and deaths, increase the profitability of the business, ensure the protection of the environment and promote agriculture among other useful contributions.
