- MSF Switzerland (MSFCH) is a humanitarian medical organization providing emergency medical aid to populations in need. In partnership & collaboration with the Mombasa County Government/Department of Health, MSFCH implements ‘Sexual and Reproductive Healthcare’ services at the Mrima health facility in Likoni, sub-county of Mombasa. The objective of the activities is to increase access to quality maternal & neonatal health care services to contribute in improving maternal and newborn outcomes.

Length of contract: 12 months fixed term contract with possibility of extension based on performance (includes 3 month probationary period)

Main Purpose:
Ensure the proper functioning of the medical activities under his/her responsibility guaranteeing the quality of healthcare in order to improve health conditions of the target population. In addition, implement gynecological and obstetrician procedures, performing any other prior treatment required, during or immediately after a woman has given birth in order to improve women’s reproductive health and to reduce pregnancy, delivery and neonatology risks. This will be done in accordance with validated policies, protocols and universal hygiene standards and in multidisciplinary collaboration with other medical doctors and midwife services.
Main Tasks include, but not limited to:
- Provide health care related to SRH and Neonates, including prevention, diagnosis and treatment.
- Ensure the implementation of validated clinical policies, tools, guidelines and protocols related to gynecology, obstetrics and neonates in order to minimize clinical risk and to extend best reproductive practices.
- In collaboration with other medical colleagues, carry out the collection of quantitative gynecological data and ensure exhaustive use of management tools in order to improve gynecological results and to share knowledge among other field specialists.
- Plan and supervise the HR associated processes (recruitment, training, performance evaluation, development and internal/external communication) of the gynecological staff in order to ensure both an efficient sizing and the amount of knowledge required, to improve people’s capabilities and their active participation in influencing the targeted population using preventive practices. This will be done in close coordination with the HR department.
- Supervise the maintenance and running of the gynecological equipment and drug consumption, preparing new orders when required and ensuring its rational use as well as that pharmacy stock levels are continually updated and available. This will be done in cooperation with the pharmacist and logistic staff, the management,

- Coordinate, assess and supervise the proper functioning of the medical activities.
- Participate in the programs / project follow-up, supervise and ensure that medical activities ob-jectives under his/her responsibility are achieved and report to the technical referent any problem arising in the service.
- Participates in the monthly reports according to guidelines (i.e. Sit Reps, medical statistical reports, etc.) and definition of annual planning, budget for the project
- Coach the medical/paramedical teams in all aspects of patient care
- Together with the PMR, take lead in maternal mortality audits and organise regular case reviews to strengthen capacity of teams/peer learning.
- Ensure proper follow up of post-operative patients by conduct regular ward rounds and reviews with the team in the wards.
- Participates in rationale use of drugs reviews
Requirements |
Education : Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery (M.B.Ch.B) degree from an institution recognized by Medical Practitioners and Dentists Board
Valid practicing license from Medical Practitioners and Dentists Board;
Certificate in Computer Application Skills from a recognized institution
Or
Diploma in clinical medicine and surgery or clinical medicine and community health from a recognised institution;
Certificate of registration from the clinical officers’ council;
Experience : Essential at least 2 year certified work experience in SRH and pediatrics
Desirable previous experience with MSF or other NGO’s
Languages : Kiswahili and English
Knowledge: Essential computer literacy (word, excel and internet)
