Medical professionals celebrate China’s first Doctors’ Day
An exhibition showcasing the history and development of modern medicine was launched in Shanghai with the arrival of the nation’s first Doctors’ Day on Sunday.
More than 500 historical items on display at the Long Museum in Xuhui District chronicle the introduction of Western medicine to China, the development of hospitals and doctors, and the history of China’s health industry.
Shanghai is the origin of China’s modern medicine and a major medical center of the nation — there are 12 hospitals with more than 100 years of history in the city.
To celebrate Doctors’ Day, Shanghai Health and Family Planning Commission honored 50 leading doctors, nurses, medical technicians, health workers and support personnel. All the winners were selected by public vote and experts’ evaluation in order to honor the city’s 200,000 medical staff.
Shanghai Doctors’ Association also honored leading medical professionals over the weekend. A total of 39 doctors won the title of “leading specialists in the field,” and 20 won the title of “best local doctors.”
