#MentalHealth: Destinys Childs Michelle Williams Checks Into Facility After Admitting She Suffers From Depression
Michelle Williams has checked herself into a mental health facility. The 37-year-old Destiny’s Child songstress ‘is getting treated in a facility just outside of Los Angeles’ according to TMZ on Tuesday.
Williams spoke to The Talk last year about her struggles with depression over the years and admitted feeling ‘suicidal’.
In a statement to the gossip site on Tuesday, Michelle wrote:
‘For years I have dedicated myself to increasing awareness of mental health and empowering people to recognize when it’s time to seek help, support and guidance from those that love and care for your wellbeing.’
‘Today I proudly, happily and healthily stand here as someone who will continue to always lead by example as I tirelessly advocate for the betterment of those in need.’
In October 2017, the singer told The Talk, ‘I’ve been suffering [from depression] since between the age of 13 and 15… at that age I didn’t know what to call it.’
The Strictly Come Dancing contestant has not enjoyed the same meteoric career rise as her bandmate Beyonce. The Illinois native’s solo debut album Heart To Yours sold 203,000 copies. By comparison, Beyonce’s debut Dangerously In Love sold 5million copies in the United States alone.
However, Williams’ career seemed to be on the ascent after a successful Destiny’s Child reunion performance at Coachella in April of this year.
The songstress accepted a proposal from pastor and life coach Chad Johnson, 40, in March.
Michelle shared a photo of her stunning diamond engagement ring – which looks to be over five carats – with the caption: ‘On March 21, 2018, the love of my life @chadjohnson77 proposed and I said “Yesssssssss…..I will, I will, I will!!!”’
The two met one year ago at a spiritual retreat in Arizona run by Johnson. ‘The day after we got engaged, Chad was like, “Okay, we gotta pick the wedding date! We gotta do all this stuff!”‘ she told People.
Johnson added, ‘She was like, “Can we just revel in the moment, relish the feeling?”‘
He added: ‘And I’m like, “Let’s go, let’s go!” It’s gonna be … think James Bond-meets-Midsummer Night’s Dream — with a little hood in it [laughs]
