Minister Advocates Speedy Records Processing
The Minister of Health, Prof. Isaac Adewole has called on the Health records Practitioners of Nigeria to shorten records processing time to enable patients see doctors within a short period of time.
The Minister made this call when he received on a courtesy visit, officials from the Association of Health Records Practitioners of Nigeria (AHRPN), led by the Registrar, Health Records Officers Registration Board of Nigeria, Alh. Muhammed Ibrahim Miami, in Abuja.
Professor Adewole said that Record Officers had a key role to play in the discharge of healthcare services in Nigeria. He said quick process of patients’ records or otherwise had positive or negative impact on the length of time spent to see doctors in hospitals.
The Minister said “Let me assure you that you are so important because you are the custodian of data and records and no institution can function without record and data; that is why you are so critical.”
“What I want is that, all of us must work together in the health sector, we need to work together to deliver good health to our people, It is important”.
Adewole said that the Federal Ministry of Health in partnership with Bureau for Public Services Reform had recently conducted a study on the number of hours spent to see doctors in public hospitals and the study revealed that, most of the time is spent at record units.
“We must work together to reduce bottleneck in record processing in hospitals. We must ensure that we treat our people as human beings and we must show care and affection” the Minister emphasized.
He called on the officials to work together with other professionals to deliver quality health care to Nigerians. The Minister used the opportunity to flag-off ‘’Operation stop quackery in health record practice campaign’’ and said that the campaign must be continuous.
Earlier, the President, Association of Health Records Practitioners in Nigeria, Barr. Nwani Jerry said that the rationale behind their visit was to demonstrate their loyalty to the Hon. Minister of Health.
“We are here today to reaffirm our support for the government and your administration and to commend your good leadership and government policies. We appeal to the FMOH to appoint adequate number of Health Records Practitioners into relevant departments, Units and committees of the Ministry”.
