Nurses’ Intimidation at OAUTHC: A Clarion Call for Action Against Tyranny and Oppression
Who could ever dream or think that the next barrage of assault against our noble nursing profession will engulf OAUTHC ILE IFE (The pride of cradle of the Yorubas) where nurses are threatened and forced to relinquish membership of NANNM as a condition to be promoted at the Obafemi Awolowo University Teaching Hospital Ile-Ife
Globally, participation in promotional exercise remain exclusive rights of civil servants, Nurses inclusive. The unfortunateFE, in past weeks is worrisome. Nurses under duress, were forced to sign undertakings/oath. This action by any moral yardstick is oppressive, barbaric, satanic and hence Nigerian nurses must rise and fight now before the intented objectives spread like harmattan fire and engulfs all of us.
We must rise now and speak in a unified voice against the management of OAUTHC under the leadership of Prof Olusanya Adejuyigbe who masterminded this satanic crusade against Nurses in collaboration with his cohorts which include
– the institution’s deputy director of nursing services; Omobonike Agboola (the DDNS ) whose tenure has been marred with victimization of Nurses, draconian imposition of anti human policies),
– the OAUTHC branch of SSATHURIA chairman; Kayode Adepoju and
– his secretary who unfortunately is a nurse ( current National NAPPON chairman); the person of lateef Adeyeni who literally begged the CMD to be smuggled in to be included for promotion,
– as well as the immediate past NAMMN chairman of OAUTHC branch,J.O. Onini
They are all beneficiaries of the institution’s CMD oppressive 8year rule.%titution’s CMD oppressive 8year rule.
Despite the NIC Judgement which provided for all health professionals ,including Nurses to attain to the highest rank of their various carrier with their professional certificate.
The management of OAUTHC ILE IFE went ahead to deprive nurses of the institution of their fundamental right. Few of them who dare to ‘sell out’ their ‘BIRTH RIGHT’ by signing an oath with the management relinquishing membership of NAMMN participated in the promotional exercise despite a High Court injunction secured by the institution chapter of NANNM to stop the exercise.
while a vast majority of them (now heroes) refused to be intimidated and chose to fight for their colleagues and were denied of their promotion. Further more, those Nurses who were due for promotion over a year ago were denied their promotion letters despite being successful in the promotional exercise up till now where as relevant letters has been issued to affected nurses in other federal health institutions. The above cohorts with the CMD who should by now be facing charges for Court Contempt go about boasting of their oppresive actions.
Let us all salute the courage of those nurses who refused to be oppressed while fighting for their colleagues by embarking on strike action close to 4 weeks now, the CMD has refused to go on terminal leave and remains glued to office to perfect his oppressive hidden agenda.
The current NAMMN Exco of OAUTHC under the leadership of B.T. Osunmakinde remain HEROES and their names remain written in GOLD.
I hereby call on all reasonable nurses globally to rise now and support those of OAUTHC as they continue this fight because Only God Knows who is next.
Watch out for regular update of the struggle, thanks.
