OET Now Accepted for Doctors in the UK and Ireland
The General Medical Council, UK (GMC) and the Medical Council (MC) of Ireland announced on 8 February that they will now accept OET as proof of English proficiency for overseas-trained doctors for registration purposes.
The GMC and the MC join the nursing and midwifery councils of the UK and Ireland, as well as a wide range of healthcare boards and councils around the world, who recognise OET for registration across 12 healthcare professions.
OET CEO Sujata Stead said: “We are delighted that both the GMC and the MC are giving wider choice to overseas doctors seeking to register and work in the UK and Ireland.
Communication is vitally important in delivering safe and quality care, and OET, as a healthcare-specific test, ensures that doctors who have achieved the required level can communicate effectively in their workplace.
