OPEN LETTER TO THE ACTING REGISTRAR/CEO, MEDICAL LABORATORY SCIENCE COUNCIL OF NIGERIA BY Adeleke Olusegun Olaoluwa (Oluomo)
I write for the dissolution of unhealthy marriage between Medical Laboratory Science Council of Nigeria (MLSCN) and Association of Medical Laboratory Scientists of Nigeria (AMLSN).
It has come to the attention of well meaning Medical Laboratory Scientists that our Annual Practice Fee with Bulletin ranges between #7,000 – #10,000 which is considerable and sensible to all while that of AMLSN that is meant to protect her members is unimaginable with the recent barbaric approval of unreasonable Mandatory Conference Fee undermining unemployed and underemployed Scientists and the fact that it is risky and clueless for all practicing members nationwide to leave their place of work at once in the name of conference attendance. MLSCN, as federal government agency is therefore urged to henceforth stop the collection AMLSN dues to enable you perform your statutory functions satisfactorily. Globally, conference attendance and payment is not forceful!
This is line with Nigerian Constitution Section 40 which holds great significance, for it gives us constitutional right to associate. This section bars a “closed shop” agreement, “yellow dog” contract, or any other arrangement that compels a Nigerian to join a particular Association or that excludes the individual from union/Association membership. This means that an individual can decline to join union/association X and instead form or join union/association Y. Also, the Constitution provides for access to court to remediate any breach of the right to associate.
A government can only be good if only the people you govern are pleased – Abraham Lincoln.
The greatest danger exist in a leader who is well armed but lack wisdom – Wole Soyinka. For you to be call a good leader you must avoid discrimination, sentiment and abstain from parochial system of leadership. Practice pure democracy and shun Autocracy, Tyranny, Anarchy and civilian dictatorship. Avoid intrigue because it retards progress. Don’t forget the discrepancy that exists between your followers but understanding their differences will bring a lasting solution to our problems. Cast no bridge down because the bridge you cast down today might be the very one you will need to cross your destination tomorrow.
When people have too much power without any strict rules and limits or restrictions as how to use it, they utilize the power at their discretion, and often abuse it and ride rough shod over and above other people’s Rights and Privileges. The excessive demands and expectations of society on those in positions of authority often lead the latter into corrupt acts to favour some people or to acquire wealth to impress.
Sir, we need not remind you that MLSCN is a corporate agency which sue and be sued.
MLSCN, therefore must dissociate herself from this proposed extortion and massive corruption intended against members. This is a call for an Open and total condemnation of corrupt practices. Integrity promotes good governance and ensures protection of members interests above self interests.
So, I canvas equity, justice, accountability, not minding the denigration and debilitation from the pessimists and sycophants. Enough is enough!!!
