Quack Doctor Nabbed for Causing Medical Student’s Death After Abortion
A man suspected to be a quack doctor has been arrested for allegedly carrying out an abortion that led to the death of an undergraduate medical student of the University of Maiduguri.
The suspect, Isa Mohammed, reportedly said he had carried out at least 25 abortions, mostly on students.
Daily Trust gathered that the suspect owns a medicine shop (chemist) where he used to carry out his acts near Culvert Area, opposite NTA staff quarter housing estate off Damboa road, Maiduguri.
It was gathered that the DPO GRA Division, received an SOS calls at 9:30pm on the October 19 from a resident who noticed strange movement of the suspect. The DPO was said to have led his team of detectives to the scene where the lifeless body of the 24-year-old was lying on the floor.
The suspect was later arrested by a team of detectives and he reportedly confessed that the deceased was charged N10,000 for the abortion of a five-month-old pregnancy but that she was yet to pay him before she died.
It was further gathered that Mohammed, who is currently being detained at State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID), also confessed that he has been in the business for 6 years and he used to charge between N3,000 to N15,000.
Police sources revealed that the corpse of the victim has been given to her family and she had been buried.
