Sokoto Orthopaedic Hospital Conducts 12 Total Knee Replacements- CMD
The Orthopaedic hospital, Wamakko in Sokoto state has conducted 12 successful total knee replacements from 2016 to date.
This was disclosed by the Chief Medical Director of the hospital, Dr. Nuraddeen Aliyu in an interview with some journalist on Friday.
He said that some of the patients have both their knees replaces while some only of their knees was replaced .
According to him, all the patients had been discharged.
Dr. Aliyu added that the hospital attended to about 50 patients everyday for various bone diseases.
He however lamented that their wards were over stretched due to influx of patients from the neighbouring states.
“We receive patients from Kebbi, Zamfara, Katsina and even Niger States and we only have the capacity of admitting only 60 patients now, “he said
Aliyu added:”Some patients have to be queuing for bed space but plan is on the pipeline for more wards in the hospital by the state government.”
He noted with dismay how traditional bone setters were compounding orthopaedic cases in the state.
According to him, they posed a greater threat to them.
“We have a lot of maltreated fractures as a result of which some patients lost their limbs, especially children.”
He however noted:”With more awareness, people are now shying away from them.We are still calling on people to stop patronizing them except those who received training on bone setting,” he appealed.
The CMD however, disclosed their plan to train more traditional bone setters in the state.
He commended the state government for recruiting five consultants and other sustained support to the hospital.
