FCTA to Construct 18 Primary Health Care Centres in 2018
The FCT administration has said it will construct 18 new primary health care centres this year as well as recruit 200 midwives in order to boost the health system in the territory.
FCT minister, Malam Musa Bello, stated this when the Director General of the World Health Organisation (WHO), Dr. Tedros Ghebreyesus, visited the Kuchigoro PHC on Wednesday in Abuja as part of his visit to Nigeria.
The FCT minister, represented by the Secretary, FCT Education Secretariat, Sen. Isa Maina, at the occasion, said the administration was committed to making the existing 237 PHC facilities in the 62 wards in the FCT functional and also upgrade the PHCs.
The WHO DG, in his remarks, thanked the authorities for the warm reception and said PHCs were the foundation of Universal Health Coverage. He called for coverage of more areas so that the impact would be felt.
The Director General of National Primary Health Care Agency, Dr. Faisal Shuaibu, in his speech, said the PHC revitalization agenda of government involves upgrading infrastructure, provision of skilled workforce, supply of medicines and equipment, among others.
Abuja Municipal Area Council (AMAC), Chairman, Abdullahi Adamu Candido, in his remarks, commended WHO for various interventions and consistent partnership for the delivery of health care to the people.
