- MSF Switzerland (MSFCH) is a humanitarian medical organization providing emergency medical aid to populations in need. In partnership & collaboration with the Mombasa County Government/Department of Health, MSFCH implements ‘Sexual and Reproductive Healthcare’ services at the Mrima health facility in Likoni, sub-county of Mombasa. The objective of the activities is to increase access to quality maternal & neonatal health care services to contribute in improving maternal and newborn outcomes.
Job Title : Psychologist
Location : Likoni sub county of Mombasa
Length of contract: 12 months fixed term contract with possibility of extension based on performance (includes 3 month probationary period)
Main Purpose;
Providing psychological support to patients according to MSF principles, standards and procedures in order to improve the patients’ mental health Main Tasks include, but not limited to:
- Carrying out evaluation of mental health needs of survivors of sexual violence and establishing a plan of treatment.
- Implementing the Sexual Gender Based Violence (SGBV) protocol, identifying possible victims of SGBV and referring them to the medical team so that they receive the necessary treatment.
- Providing psychological support and psychotherapy sessions (individual, family, group) to survivors of sexual violence according to MSF protocols in order to improve their mental health conditions
- Assisting and training staff members, sensitization of staff to the complexities and social taboos related to sexual violence
- Collecting and registering individual data about mental health in SGBV register
- Informing the supervisor and the medical team about any issues or problems that may arise related to patients’ treatment in order to provide the best possible solution from a medical perspective
- Liaise with social worker for linking the survivor to rescue centre resources
- Liaise with lay counsellor in adapting plan of care to ensure the best level of support according to survivor needs
- Ensure that all patient information is kept confidential.
- Participate in reporting and analysis of collected data – reporting on trends and complexities related to stigma
- Participates in community working groups and contributes experience and expertise as it relates to sexual violence prevention
- Be familiar with all aspects of reporting as they pertain to confidentiality and legal procedings – and to fully understand the boundaries of a psychologist and client/profession priveleges
- Be familiar with the Medico legal certificate offered to all survivor
- Maintain patient files, in collaboration with the medical team, under lock and key
- Report any concerning behaviour of a family member/neighbour or friend that may be indicative of the person being a perpetrator
- Be familiar with all medico legal aspects of sexual violence and relevant care including the forensic side of the specimen collection
- Participate in local forums on sexual violence with other local stakeholders in collaboration with the PMR
- Work in collaboration with the social worker and lay counsellor in all aspects of the program
- Weekly review with the PMR, the SV response team including HP manager
- Participate in professional supervision sessions as a part of the MSF provided staff health program – SPAM – stress prevention and management
Requirements |
Education : Essential degree in Psychology
Relevant license to practice independently as a Psychologist
Experience : • Essential 2 years’ experience minimum as a Psychologist with an interest in SRH and sexual violence
- Desirable previous experience with MSF
Languages : Kiswahili and English
Knowledge: Desirable computer literacy (word, excel and internet)
Competences: Results, teamwork, commitment, flexibility, service, stress management
