Nursing and Midwifery Council of Nigeria Changes Nursing Schools to HND Nursing Awarding Institutions

The much awaited and hotly debated National/Higher National Diploma in Nursing might finally take off this October 2017 as the Nursing and Midwifery Council of Nigeria has called for application for interested Schools of Nursing to apply for resources verification by National Board for Technical Education before 7th of July, 2017 according to a circular sighted by Nursesarena.com founder.
The aim of converting Schools of Nursing to Monotechnic it was gathered is to give Academic recognition to Nursing and Midwifery Education in Nigeria. Prior to this innovative approach, graduates of Nursing Nursesarena Schools have been left confused with the equivalency of the certificates they obtained from Nursing Schools as it has no Academic equivalence. This has led to improper placing of Nurses while many others have lost various foreign scholarship opportunities. Below is the content of the circular addressed to:

NOTIFICATION OF COMMENCEMENT OF THE ND/HND NURSING PROGRAM IN NIGERIA FOR ACADEMIC RECOGNITION OF THE NURSING AND MIDWIFERY CERTIFICATE
This is to inform you that the Nursing and Midwifery Council of Nigeria and National Board for Technical Education has signed a Memorandum of Understanding for the implementation of the NBTE Program for Nursing Education which will lead to the award of ND/HND to graduands of schools/colleges of Nursing and Midwifery in Nigeria.
This is aimed at giving Academic recognition to Nursing and Midwifery Education that is run in the various Hospital-Based Schools/Colleges of Nursing and Midwifery in Nigeria.
With this development, proprietors are expected to notify Council of their interest to operate as a MONOTECHNIC on or before 7th July, 2017.
All interested institutions must meet the following preliminary requirements:-
1. Have either full or interim accreditation of the NursesarenaNursing and Midwifery Council of Nigeria
2. Have a law/edit establishing it as a school or college.
3. List of Schools/Colleges selected will be forwarded to National Board for Technical Education for resource verification and accreditation.
