WHAT IS ZAMBIA E-LEARNING NURSING
Many of you have been asking questions about e-learning, others even reaching to an extent of speculating and ending up misleading deserving applicants. Now get it here.
The program was introduced by the Ministry of Health with support from donors Childfund Zambia in 2014.The first pioneer schools were Mufulira,Kitwe,Ndola and Livingstone.
E-LEARNING is a mode of training under Registered Nurse training Diploma program. It is called ‘e’ because it combines the use of electronic gadgets, computers and tablets which have course materials installed on them.Under e-learning students attend normal classes as day scholars. No boarding facilities for e-learning, please take note.
The program runs concurrently with its sister program regular or fulltime. These two are but one and the same except for few differences such as use of e content and gadgets as well as self accommodation.Students wear same uniforms whether fulltime boarder or e-learner.They all write the same countrywide General Nursing Council Exams, and are all under the Ministry of Health.
Under e-learning your are expected to be in school all the time to learn in class,do clinical drills,or practice in the ward just like fulltime students. At this point i wish to dispel a wrong notion that an e learner just sits home on a computer, no and I say no.Nursing is a hands on career how can one perform a procedure while seated home, practically impossible.
Both e-learners and regular students graduate with same qualifications because they sit for the same exam and at the same time.At the end they add up to the country’s human resource as nurses employed by Government.
Fees are slightly similar across all schools in the ranges of K8000 to K11000, paid per year(an assumption for 2018).
Currently the program has been running in about 16 government nursing schools across the country.
Hidden costs under e-learning could be accommodation, transport and food.Bear this in mind that it is less competitive in terms of numbers compared to the fulltime program. So for those who truly want to train as nurses this is gives them more chance.
Expert advise.
All the best.
