AMLSN News: Still on Hike in Due by Association of Medical Laboratory Scientists of Nigeria
With regards to the letter informing scientists about increase in AMLSN dues,I must say I am highly disappointed that Dr. Bassey Enya and the entire NEO would start their tenure by “increasing” AMLSN Dues. First of all ,I do not think this is the right time in this country to be increasing any thing.
There is no justification for this new development, whatsoever. So is this their happy new year message to us?
Some scientists don’t even have jobs and most that do are not well paid. Where are they going to get the money?
With all the legal fees being paid in the past, we don’t even know what’s going on with this case in court. Some of us don’t even know what the court case is about π€·π½ββπ€·π½ββ. How about even giving a periodical report as to what is going on? Let’s even know where all this money is going or do we have to always wait for the National Conference to hear??π€·π½ββπ€. But peradventure this info is being shared, the National PRO needs to do a better job because some of us have no clue as to what’s really going on with this “never-ending”court case.
And please do not compare us to other professions. We are unique in our own way and we “must not” do what others are doing. Before we can talk about Pharmacists and what they are doing, let’s even put in place some of the structures they have already put in place. Up until now,we have not been able to come up with/enforce a simple policy on siting laboratories and use of scientists’ licenses by non-laboratory owners. Is this the same with pharmacists? NO!
The pharmacists are super-organised in their dealings and it’s showing, that’s why we can make reference to them. We need to sit down and do our own homework and then we can ask for more money. The NEO can’t just wake up one day and decide to increase dues…for no good reason. The Association belongs to us all. It’s not anybody’s private property. I have read that letter over and over again and I couldn’t find one single reason for this increment or for making it compulsory to pay conference fees as part of the dues. It is highly suspicious and is not sitting well with me. If this is in a bid to raise money for the Association, there are a million and one ways to achieve that. How about even proposing projects and getting funding for it? Are we not scientists ? Who else should be producing different things in this country if not us? When exactly are Nigerians going to start feeling the impact of scientists? This should be our primary focus and not this letter asking for more money.
All-in-all ,I would like to say that we need to carve out our own niche and not try to do it like everyone else. The NEO needs to give us good reason for this new development ,I don’t see any in this letter of theirs .This is definitely not the right time for this. For once, can we get a breath of fresh air in this Association?βΉ
