AMLSN STRUGGLES IS ULTIMATELY FOR THE YOUNG BY Osaretin Agbonlahor.
There is no doubt that the cardinal focus of any responsible association is the strive for an enhanced welfare package for the generation next which obviously becomes the pride of such group tomorrow. AMLSN IS NO EXCEPTION!
The current approach of the Amlsn leadership to address all issues confronting her members from the centre is a clear indication that they are committed to liberate the space to bring in many young Medical laboratory scientists into gainful employment.
The move by this current NEOS to engage the federal government to create the Directorate of MLS at the federal ministry of health will results in massive employment opportunities for the young.
The decision to set up a committee led by Dr G.C.Okara to help handle all legal cases is also another brilliant move Which led to the call for all chapters with court cases to bring details to Abuja so that they can be harmonised and given equal shot so that we don’t loss any of our court cases.
Also , the drive by this administration for the implementation of the National medical laboratory science policy by the federal government is another step in the same direction.
Advocacy visits to Agencies like NCDC and the push for laboratory inspections all add to the struggle to open up the employment opportunities.
How does all these translate to employment?
1. When we have all our court cases enforced, our directorate will be created and our Directors will statutorily be made to make budget and make cases for the for employment of more MLSCTISTS
2. The implementation of all our laboratory policies by the federal government will sure expose the gaps in the laboratory services of the country and competent young MLS will be engaged to fill this vacancies.
3. The advocacies will directly open up Job opportunities.
4. Laboratory inspection will stamped out quacks and qualified Mls will be gainfully engaged.
Other service issues on EEP and central posting of interns and increased employment quota for Medical laboratory scientists are all to the benefits of the young and not the directors per se.
In the light of the above, I am more than convinced that if we the young support our leaders we will be better for it.
However, the instruments to also retard this progress or even destroy our previous gains also lies with the young.
There are pains no doubt but the facts remains those that don’t want our emancipation are ordinarily stronger than us in number, resources, influence and they are using their privileged position in government to prosecute their cases with minimal personal funds and are still wondering how we are coping in the midst of the oppressions and financial hardship.
It takes the strong and determined to win fiercy battles like this.
Professional emancipation don’t come easy and litigations are sure expensive.
Let us give our support and close ranks and by the grace of God none of us will miss out of the goodies as we arrive the promise land soonest.
Good morning dearest colleagues.
Osaretin Agbonlahor.
