NMC Registration Process: NMC Registration Requirements for Overseas Nurses 2018

The nursing and midwifery council UK is the centralized agency that controls the registration,practice and upholding of standard of nursing in England,Wales,Scotland and Northern Ireland.
This guide is made by Nurses arena dot com solely as a guide for registered nurses in Nigeria who may seek to pursue registration with the UK nursing and midwifery council board in order to be able to practice in any part of UK.
Nurses Arena dot com observed that the previous registration procedure for nurses who are trained outside the European Union countries has changed. Nurses who intend to pursue registration with NMC need to follow the guidelines and steps outlined below.
Before you proceed with the steps,Note that you must meet the following eligibility requirements:
1. Language
You must have at least 7.0 in each aspect of IELTS with an average band score of at least 7.0.
Update : Under the previous system applicants were required to achieve the IELTS Academic Test Level 7 in reading, writing, speaking and listening in a single sitting. Under the new protocols the NMC still requires applicants to achieve Level 7 in all areas, but this can now be achieved over two sittings of the tests. Both tests must be within six months of each other and no single score must be below 6.5 in any of the areas across both tests.
2. Education Requirements
You must have had at least 3years of nursing education. You are required to have 10years of education before your nursing studies.
3. Practice Requirements
You are required to have at least 12months of full time or part time equivalent work experience.
4. Registration Requirements
You must hold an active registration with the nursing and midwifery council of Nigeria. Your registration must have no restrictions placed on it.
NOTE: UK NMC has 4 registration fields which are; Adult nursing,mental health nursing,learning disability nursing and children nursing.
As a single qualified nurses in Nigeria,your application should come under Adult Nursing.
STEP 1:
After determining that you have the requirements stated above, click on ireg.nmc-uk.org/?_e_pi_=7%2CPAGE_ID10%2C2814719423 and create an account. Then complete the self-assessment of eligibility before applying. Ensure you meet all the requirements including good health and character. You will be required to produce all your documents at the later phase.

STEP 2
TEST OF COMPETENCE -PART ONE
Once you have passed the eligibility assessment stage (the above step) then you will need to sit for a computer based exam. The exam is a multiple choice one that you can take right here in Nigeria!
Pearson VUE (pearsonvue.com/nmc/) administers the exam on behalf of the NMC UK thus the exam is available worldwide . Pearson VUE has testing partners in everycountry. You have two attempts to pass the test and if you fail twice you will have to wait until six months later before you can retake the test. If you pass,then your result will be sent to the NMC UK and you will be invited to progress to the next stage.

STEP 3: ASSESSMENT
After passing the computer based test,your application will then be assessed. For the assessment, you will have to produce the following:
– A valid passport.
-Birth certificate
-Your qualification certificate
-Registration certificate from Nursing and Midwifery Council of Nigeria.
-2 employment references confirming that you have the 12months experience in competent and character
-Verification of registration from Nursing and Midwifery Council of Nigeria
-Transcript from your nursing school showing the hours spent in clinicals and block studies.
-A good health declaration certificate from a Medical doctor
-Police certificate

STEP 4 TEST OF COMPETENCE – PART TWO
After successful assessment, you will be invited for the second competency test. This is a test of clinical competence; the format is Objective Structured Clinical Examination commonly referred to as OSCE.
For this part of the test,nursesarena.com gathered that you will have to travel to UK to take the test. This is because the University of Northampton is the only university allowed to conduct the exam.
You will rotate through 6 stations and answer questions (you will be asked to carry out practical demonstrations and answer questions as you rotate the stations). STEP 5 ID CHECK
This is face-to-face Identity check where your identity will be confirmed. Your picture will be taken and all your ORIGINAL documents which you have earlier submitted will be checked.
This can be done at the venue of the OSCE exam or later at the London Office of Nursing and Midwifery Council, UK.
Upon successful completion of part two competency exam,you will be invited to complete the final declaration and payment for your registration pin; this can be done online. The registration fees cost £133 (like #37,000) and renewable annually.
The total amount of money required to process your application (excluding IELTS fees,mailing, license verification in your country, travel,hotel booking etc) is £1395
