Suspension Of ABUTH Nurse Over WhatsApp post: Did Abuth Follow Due Process? By Ogunsanwo Babatunde RN
It is no longer news that a nurse has been suspended from service due to a post the management of the hospital deemed “wholly inappropriate” . While I strongly frown against the inflammatory message purportedly shared by the nurse in question, I believe that the management of ABUTH displayed great prejudice and bias in suspending the nurse.
Firstly, It is very important to note that the message was posted to an unofficial WhatsApp account of NANNM which is a body representing Nurses and not the management, hence the management should have allowed NANNM to resolve the issue.
Secondly, the nurse in question claimed she mistakenly forwarded the message to the WhatsApp group. This implies that she might not be the author and mistakes can happen especially when using ICT gadget to send information.. Some of us have mistakenly sent a text message to the wrong person at one point or the other.
Thirdly, was the nurse given an opportunity to defend herself before she was hammered with indefinite suspension? Was a disciplinary panel formed?
Fourthly, what effort did ABUTH make to find out the real author of the inflammatory message? Did they even bother at all?
Lastly, Has the said nurse sent such messages or incite any form of religious violence before?
All these are questions that must be answered by ABUTH and other Nurses in Nigeria because “what goes around comes around”
I totally condemn messages that incites violence.. Did ABUTH follow due process in the suspension of Nurse Ngozi Wuturuacha?
