Vanessa Marquez Er “Nurse Wendy” shot and killed by police during welfare check

A former ER actress was shot and killed by police during a welfare check at her home.

Vanessa Marquez was fatally shot after brandishing a BB gun at officers, the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department said.

Officers from the South Pasadena Police Department visited the 49-year-old, who played nurse Wendy Goldman in the medical TV drama, at her home on Thursday.

When police arrived, Marquez was suffering from seizures, officers said.

The TV star is said to have become increasingly uncooperative as police spoke to her and encouraged her to receive medical treatment for over an hour and a half.

Marquez then brandished what officers said appeared to be a handgun and police shot her in response, NBC News Los Angeles reports.

The weapon turned out to be a BB gun and was “described as a replica semi-automatic handgun,” according to police.

A mental health professional attended the scene with police, the sheriff’s office said.

Sgt Joe Mendoza told reporters Marquez was “suffering from some problems, eating disorder.”

The LA County Sheriff’s office is now investigating the officer-involved shooting.

Marquez also starred in the 1988 film ‘Stand and Deliver’ and episodes of “Seinfeld” and “Wiseguy” in the ’90s.
